It's open for visits by arrangement with our club. For more info, please click here and we'll get in touch with you.
BEEKEEPING COURSES
Our Beekeeping courses have been a big success. We have already hosted many courses this season and plan more in spring, so if you want to learn a bit of theory plus get your hands on bees, click here to keep up to date with the next course info.
WHAT WE DID LAST MONTH

If you weren't able to attend our meetings last month you missed..
Our night meeting with a presentation on Africanised Bees Genes presented by Nadine Chapman. This was a very informative session from a professional insight into this problem.

Our field day included the requeening of 2 hives, chalkbrood discussion and reducing hives for winter. We also saw what small hive beetle and AFB does to a hive and how to deal with these problems.

WHAT TO DO NOW IN THE APIARY
Autumn time in beekeeping means getting your colonies ready for the cold days and nights ahead. Reducing the space in your hives should be at the top of the list. If you have got more than one super, inspect your colony and if needed, consider taking off a box to minimise the extra space so your bees keep warm.

We are always doing things at our club so make sure you don't miss out on our next meetings!
HAVE YOUR SAY IN THIS MONTH'S POLL

The Flow Hive | What’s your opinion?

There has been a lot of publicity and talk on the new innovation from a couple of NSW lads in beekeeping called The Flow Hive. We’d like to know what you think about it and answer one simple question in our poll.

INSURANCE: MAKE SURE YOU’RE COVERED
As a beekeeper, one of the many benefits in joining the ABA is insurance cover and protection. The insurance offered to ABA members is not compulsory but highly recommended and covers a great deal and may be difficult to get without the strength of the ABA as a collective. Please remember insurance is not automatically included with your membership. To be covered by this insurance, you must select the option and pay (currently $50 covers an individual with 1-20 hives, more options for number of hives available). Make sure you are covered. If you haven't already done so you can buy this cover here.
